Introduction
This course allows you to develop your understanding and broaden your knowledge of Engineering.  It allows the academic development necessary for an Engineering career and introduces you to the latest technology. You will learn how Engineering businesses operate, develop and apply your skills with Computer-Aided Design and learn and apply scientific and mathematical principles to analysing, designing and problem-solving in an Engineering context.

Entry requirements
You need five GCSEs at grades A* to C, including Maths, Science and English.

Duration
This is a full-time, two year course.

Career Prospects/Progression
When you complete this course, you can progress into employment at technician level across a number of Engineering disciplines.  Alternatively, you can progress to Higher Education courses such as HNC, HND and degrees.  Some courses are available at the University Centre Yeovil (UCY).

How will I be assessed?
The extend diploma is assessed through a series of assignments that are complete during the two years of the course. There are no end of course exams.

Course Content/units
Typically the course will cover areas such as: Mechanical Science, Electrical and Electronic Principals, Maths, Business Studies, Engineering Drawing, Engineering Design, Computer Aided Design, CNC Machining, Manufacturing Processes.

Course expenses
Approximately £55 for Protective clothing and materials. Additional trips and activities are planned into the year and will incur an additional cost.

Trips to various high profile industrial and manufacturing sites to illustrate what you learn at College.  Previous destinations have included the Honda factory in Swindon and Numatic International in Chard.
