Title and Level: AS/A Level Accounting (Level 3)

Introduction
The course aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of the purposes of accounting, its concepts and techniques and their development, as well as an appreciation of its limitations. You will study areas including: accounting records; trading and profit and loss accounts; balance sheets; ledger accounts; accounting principles, concepts and conventions; final accounts; capital structure of limited companies; assessment of business performance; types of business organisations and published accounts. It is an ideal subject to study alongside Business.

Entry requirements
Standard entry requirements apply, plus grade A* to C in GCSE Maths.

Duration
The AS Level is a one year course and the A Level is a two year course. Enrolment is only in September.

Career Prospects/Progression
You can progress to further study of Accounts, such as AAT, other professional qualifications or related subjects at Higher Education level.  Alternatively, you can seek employment.  Accounting skills are highly sought after in a range of industries, including areas such as business and finance, retail or in the field of self-employment.  

How will I be assessed?
Through continuous assessment, assignments and examinations.

Course Content/units
AS Level Units:

1. Introduction to Financial Accounting e.g. Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets.
2. Financial Management Accounting e.g. Ratios to Measure Company Performance

A Level Units:

3. Further Aspects of Financial Accounting e.g. The Accounts of LTD Companies
4. Further Aspects of Managing Accounting e.g. Project Investment Appraisal and Social Accounting

Course expenses
Approximately £18 per year for text books. Optional trips to Europe and another continent to research business practice in other countries.
