Title & Level: AS Level Further Mathematics (Level 3)

Introduction
Do you find maths fascinating? Are you likely to go to university to take a course which contains a lot of maths? If either or both of these are true, you are highly recommended to take Further Maths at AS or A Level. To enrol on this course, you must also be taking AS and A Level Mathematics. Further Maths is designed to develop the depth of your mathematical reasoning and knowledge. At both AS and A Level there is a Further Pure module in which exciting and powerful new areas of mathematics like complex numbers and matrices are studied. Learning advanced techniques will allow you to tackle a wide range of real life problems in mechanics and statistics.  These abstract, algebraic topics are widely used and are extremely important in subjects such as physic, aeronautical engineering and electronics at degree level.

Entry requirements
You should have achieved an A or A* at higher level GCSE Maths.

Duration
The AS Level is a one year course and the A Level is a two year course. Enrolment is only in September.

Career Prospects/Progression
Further Maths is increasingly required for university courses such as Maths, Physical Sciences and Engineering.

How will I be assessed?
Through examination only.

•    Further Concepts for Advanced Mathematics (FP1)
•    Mechanics 1 (M1)
•    Decision Maths (D1)

A Level Units, as above plus:

•    Further Methods for Advanced Mathematics (FP2)
•    Mechanics 2 (M2)
•    Mechanics 3 (M3) or Statistics 3 (S3)
