Title & Level: AS Level Philosophy (Level 3)Introduction
This course enables you to gain a thorough grounding in key philosophical ideas, themes and techniques. If we believe something, does that make it true? What makes actions right or wrong? Is there a meaning to life? Is there a God? What is the value of art? These are just some of the questions which will be examined on this course.
Entry requirements
Standard entry requirements for A Levels apply.
Duration
AS Level is a one year course. Enrolment is only in September.
Career Prospects/Progression
Philosophy provides a good grounding in clear and analytical thinking which is suitable for any course of study. The subject itself can be studied on many university degree courses.
How will I be assessed?
Through coursework and examinations.
Course Content/units
The following units are mandatory:
AS LEVEL
UNIT ONE
An Introduction to Philosophy- written paper 1 hr 30 mins
One compulsory question on Reason and Experience
One question drawn from a choice of units: Government,
Morality,The Idea of God and Persons
UNIT TWO
An Introduction to Philosophy – written paper 1 hr 30 mins
Two questions to be chosen from this selection: Theory of
Knowledge, Tolerance, The Value of Art, God and the World,
Free Will and Determinism
Course expenses
Approximately £20 for educational trips.
Trips/Residentials
Previous trips have included visits to major London galleries.
