AoC Beacon Awards

The award for Lifelong Learning, sponsored by Edexcel, has been given to the Skills for life and Learning Team at Yeovil College, for its ‘Open Link Project’ work, where partnerships with local NHS Mental Health Trust, South Somerset MIND, RETHINK, a local housing project and a local church are providing safe learning opportunities for people with mental health difficulties, addictions and/or living with domestic violence. 

The project offers hope and success to those who face real barriers to learning within their daily lives, through realistic stepping stones on an educational journey which responds to their own state of well-being, ability and confidence. Whilst ensuring the best possible individual learning opportunities are available, the project subsequently address the issues of inclusion, equality and diversity, participation, retention, achievement and progression.
