Apprenticeship/Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 2/3) Children and Young People's Workforce
Title & Level: Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) Children and Young Peoples Workforce and Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) Early Learning and Childcare
Introduction
This course will give you the underpinning knowledge and practical experience of working with children from 0-19 years in a variety of work placements including nurseries, pre schools and schools. At Level 2, you would be working in an assistant role and at Level 3 you would be working in a more senior role. At Level 3, there are three pathways depending upon your preferred area of specialism; Learning Development and Support Services, Teaching and Learning, Early Years or Children’s Social Care.
Entry requirements
For Level 2 you are required to have a minimum of two GCSEs at grade C. For Level 3, you are required to have a relevant Level 2 Childcare qualification. You will need CRB clearance, which will be carried out by your workplace employer.
Duration
The Level 2 is a one year course and the Level 3 is an 18 month course. Enrolment is preferred in September.
Career Prospects/Progression
After completing this course, you can apply for employment in schools, day nurseries, private families, playgroups, crèches and after-school clubs. Successful achievement at Level 3 and further work experience will allow you to progress on to a Foundation degree via the part-time route.

Course Content/units
Level 2: Examples of units to be covered within this course include Supporting Children and Young People's Development, Safeguarding, Health and Safety. Within Level 2 you will also be expected to complete Functional Skills at Level 1 in Maths, IT and English and a twelve hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
Level 3: Examples of units to be covered within this course include Promoting Children and Young People's Development, Safeguarding, Health and Safety. Within Level 3 you will be expected to complete Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths, IT and English and a twelve hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate (if not already achieved).
