Title & Level: Apprenticeship (Level 2) Health & Social Care

Introduction
This course will give you the underpinning knowledge and practical experience of working with a variety of age ranges and client groups in Health and Social Care.  These could include care homes, working with people with learning difficulties/disabilities, day centres, nursing homes etc. A work placement where practical skills can be developed is an essential part of the course. At Level 2, you would be working in an assistant role.

Entry requirements
You will need Cs in GCSE English and Maths. You need an appropriate work placement.  You will need CRB clearance, which will be carried out by your workplace employer.

Duration
12 months. 

Career Prospects/Progression
If you successfully complete the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, you may be able to progress on to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship, if you are in an appropriate job role.  Alternatively, you may consider the BTEC (Level 3) Diploma/Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care or you can apply for one of a wide range of positions in the Care sector.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through:

  • Assignments
  • Observations in the workplace
  • Exams (TBC)

Course Content/units
The course consists of:

  • Diploma (Level 2) in Health and Social Care
  • Functional Skills at Level 1 – Maths and English
  • Employers’ Rights and Responsibilities
  • Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care (14-19 students only)

The Diploma (Level 2) in Health and Social Care includes:

  • HSC 024 - Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • HSC 025 - The role of the health and social care worker
  • HSC 026 - Implement person centred approaches in health and social care
  • HSC 027 - Contribute to health and safety in health and social care
  • HSC 028 - Handle information in health and social care settings
  • SHC 21 - Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • SHC 22 - Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • SHC 23 - Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • SHC 24 - Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

Course expenses
A course handbook is optional at a cost of approximately £25.
