Introduction
Within this course, you will study health and safety within your organisation and the control of manufacturing operations. It will include quality control, improving effectiveness, communication, working relationships and environmental awareness. The Apprenticeship is suitable for a wide range of manufacturing occupations.
Entry requirements
You should have a work placement relevant to your chosen career route, an interest and enthusiasm for your work and the determination to succeed and progress. A reasonable standard of English and Maths is required.
Duration
The course is normally completed in about a year, but may vary depending on your previous knowledge and experience., and time allowed for study by your employer.
Career Prospects/Progression
Progress to a Level 3 related course of study.
How will I be assessed?
Through continuous assessment by observations in the workplace, personal statements of competence, portfolio of evidence, end of module/unit tests and project work. A qualified College Assessor will visit you in your workplace to assess your practical skills whilst you are working in your job role. Your portfolio of evidence will be assessed and internally verified by a College Internal Verifier. Written work produced will be held within this portfolio and assessed. The Key Skills will be assessed in two parts -dependent on your previous qualifications e.g. GCSE results - (1) a written portfolio of evidence in support of how you apply your Basic Skills in a job role and (2) an on-line external test to assess your Basic Skills ability.

The Apprenticeship at Level 2 consists of:

Employer Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
- Award in Industrial Environment Awareness at Level 2 (Technical Certificate)
You should be employed and trained by your employer to complete certain practical tasks. These everyday tasks should fit with the NVQ standards. This will allow you to put together a portfolio of evidence, gathered from your workplace, in support of your NVQ, which may include photographic evidence, a witness testimony from your employer or objects of production in written paper form. Key Skills will be taught as a separate subject and the units embedded within project and assignment work.
The programme is delivered in the workplace with the College Lecturer or assessor making regular visits to provide you with one-to-one instruction, tutorial and assessment time. Regular feedback sessions and 12-weekly progress reviews with your employer and Training Co-ordinator will assist you with your progress and motivation.
Mandatory NVQ units of study will include:
- Complying with Statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements and promoting effective working relationships, or contributing to effective team working. There are a number of option units to choose and these can be “packaged” to suit your job role e.g.
- Optional Units Set A : Transferring materials; Preparing for manufacturing operations; concluding manufacturing operations; ensuring effective handover of operations; receiving and checking incoming materials; controlling operations; analysing the results of inspection and confirming quality of production; recording and reporting inspection and test results (you must choose 3 of these units)
- Optional Units Set B : Producing shaped products; producing products by assembly operations; producing joined products; produce products by processing; producing formed products; finishing products; producing moulded products; producing packaged products; making products using computer controlled equipment; manufacturing products using combined manufacturing operations; analysing carrying out inspection and testing activities (you must choose 1 of these units which relates specifically to your job role).
