An Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering will give you the necessary knowledge and hands on experience to follow a successful career in this vital area of the Civil Engineering industry. You will gain experience in a range of practical skills from basic road and kerb layout, through to the handling of key plant machinery used in the industry, ensuring that you are fully equipped to be a valuable asset to any employer.
Entry requirements
You should demonstrate an interest in Civil Engineering and have achieved four GCSEs at grades A* to D, preferably including Maths and English. You will need a work placement and employer to become an apprentice. You will need a work placement and employer to become an apprentice and the college can help with finding that employer if you have not been successful in finding a placement for yourself.
Duration
This is a two year programme depending on the level that you start at and the progression you make.
In year one, you will be at college for two and a half days a week. In year two, you will attend college for one day per week until you have completed your Technical Certificate.
Career Prospects/Progression
If you successfully complete the Level 2 Apprenticeship, you may have the opportunity to progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship in your chosen field.
How will I be assessed?
Your progress will be monitored through continuous theoretical assignments and practical assessments. Practical elements of the qualification will be assessed in the workplace. This will be pre-arranged in discussion with your assessor and employer. Your Technical Certificate and Functional Skills will be assessed via assignments and projects and there will be theoretical tests (half to one hour) set to assess your knowledge and understanding of the subject.

• Level 2 NVQ Diploma Civil Engineering
• Functional Skills in Communication, Application of Number and I.T.
• Level 2 in Improving Own Learning and Performance and Working with Others
• A Technical Certificate, at Level 2, which underpins the practical competence of the apprenticeship (Guilds)
Course expenses
If you are employed, then your employer will normally provide you with your protective clothing but you may have to purchase any recommended text books.
