Title & Level: Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) Electrical Installation

Introduction
This course will give you the skills and experience within the workplace to commence a career as a qualified Electrician. You will study Electrical units in Health and Safety, make preparations to install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment; install and connect electrical wiring systems using safe and improved methods; inspect, test and commission electrical installation and learn to diagnose and correct faults and problems.

Entry requirements
At least four GCSEs grades C and above, with good grades in English, Maths and Science and a work placement. Progression from full-time construction-based courses will also be considered.  If you have some electrical experience and work with in the industry, this will also be taken into consideration.

Duration
This course runs for 3 years. Enrolment is preferred in September.

Career Prospects/Progression
Having successfully completed your Advanced Apprenticeship, you will be recognised as a qualified electrician with the opportunity to further specialise in additional areas such as security and renewable energy.

How will I be assessed?
Through continuous assessment by observations, professional discussions, personal statements and product evidence. A qualified College assessor will visit you in your workplace to assess your practical skills whilst you are working in your job role.  Your supervisor at work may be asked for a statement to confirm competence in particular practical activities. A site diary will be maintained. At the end of your course you will sit a practical AM2 test which will examine your practical competence in wiring systems. Passing this test will allow you to practice as a qualified electrician.

In addition to this, you will be required to complete Functional Skills in numeracy, literacy and IT.

Course Content/units
To gain the full qualification, you must successfully complete units such as:

•    Ensure safe site working
•    Diagnose and correct faults in ETT systems and equipment
•    Provide technical and functional information
•    Maintain a healthy and safe environment
•    Prepare to install electrical wiring systems, wiring closures and equipment
•    Install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
•    Connect wiring systems and equipment using safe and approved methods
•    Inspect, test and commission an electrical installation

Course expenses
You will be required to purchase the current edition regulations book and the on-site guide.  There may be a charge if you have to re-sit any formal exams. You will be required to wear protective clothing and steel toe-capped boots whilst working in the Electrical workshop.
