Apprenticeship (Level 2) Housekeeping

Title & Level: Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) Housekeeping

Introduction
The Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) in Housekeeping is aimed at students currently working in the industry or about to accept work in the general Housekeeping environment.  This course will help you to develop your skills in a number of key areas, including cleaning and maintaining floors, maintaining supplies, cleaning windows, using chemicals in Housekeeping and customer service.

Entry requirements
You need at least grade D in GCSE English and Maths.  You will also have to pass an interview with the Programme Leader and either be working or about to start work in the industry.

Duration
This is a one year course.

Career Prospects/Progression
Successful completion of this Apprenticeship could allow you to take a related Advanced course, such as the Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Apprenticeship, which is suitable for those working towards a supervisory position.

How will I be assessed?
The mode of assessment will depend upon the part of the programme you are completing, but methods will include paper-based assessment, on-line assessment and workplace assessment.

Course Content/units
The programme involves six components

•    NVQ Diploma (Level 2) in Housekeeping
•    Level 2 Award in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Housekeeping)
•    Level 1 Functional Skill Maths
•    Level 1 Functional Skill in English
•    Employer Rights and Responsibilities (Workbook)
•    Personal learning and thinking skills

To cover the underpinning theory, students will undertake seven units during their year of study:

•    Safe, hygienic and secure working environments in hospitality
•    Chemicals and equipment used for cleaning in the hospitality industry
•    Cleaning and servicing of hospitality areas
•    Maintain housekeeping supplies
•    Provide a linen service
•    Effective teamwork
•    Giving customers a positive impression

For the practical element of the course, students can choose from a range of units.  The following is an example of a typical Housekeeping programme:

•    Maintain a safe, hygienic and secure working environment
•    Use of different chemicals and equipment in housekeeping
•    Maintain housekeeping supplies
•    Cleaning and servicing a range of housekeeping areas
•    Clean windows from the inside
•    Clean, maintain and protect hard floors
•    Clean and maintain soft floors and furnishings
•    Work effectively as part of a hospitality team
•    Employment rights & responsibilities in the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector
•    Maintain customer service through effective handover
•    Give customers a positive impression of self and your organisation
