These Apprenticeships provide you with the necessary skills to carry out general IT duties in areas such as fault diagnosis and repair, customer relations, programming, systems analysis and database management. The Advanced Apprenticeship develops skills learned at Level 2 and also prepares you for managing ICT systems.
Entry requirements
For the Intermediate Apprenticeship, you need GCSE Maths and English at grade D or above, along with a suitable work placement. To join the Advanced course, you need GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above as well as a work placement.
Duration
The Intermediate Apprenticeship is a two year course. The Advanced Apprenticeship takes two or three years depending upon whether you already hold a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
Career Prospects/Progression
If you successfully complete the Intermediate Apprenticeship, you may progress to the Advanced course. Successful completion of the Advanced Apprenticeship could lead to a Foundation degree, such as those available at the University Centre Yeovil (UCY).
How will I be assessed?
Intermediate Level
The Level 2 award is assessed through either prepared assignments or online assessment. The Level 2 diploma is assessed through work-based evidence.
Advanced Level
The Level 3 certificate is assessed through either prepared assignments or online assessment. The Level 3 diploma is assessed through work based evidence.
Course Content/units
Intermediate Apprenticeship
The Intermediate Apprenticeship is primarily composed of two main qualifications:
• Level 2 Award in ICT systems and Principles (12 credits)
• Level 2 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence (48 credits)
The Level 2 award has optional units. You will be able to select two or three units (dependent on points) from eight different possibilities. Examples of these include:
• Maintain equipment and systems
• Testing ICT systems
• Install and configure and maintain software
The Level 2 Diploma is comprised of two mandatory units.
• Health and Safety (Mandatory)
• Develop Personal and Organisational Effectiveness (Mandatory)
You can choose from over 45 optional units to complete your qualification. Examples of the optional units include:
• Technical fault diagnosis
• Customer care
• Testing ICT systems
• Software Development
You will also be required to achieve level 1 in Functional skills (Maths and English)
Advanced Level
The Advanced Apprenticeship is primarily composed of the following two main qualifications:
• Level 3 Certificate in ICT systems and Principles (14 credits)
• Level 3 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence (72 credits)
The Level 3 certificate has optional units and you will be able to select two or three (dependent on points) from 18 different possibilities. For example:
• Maintain equipment and systems
• Testing ICT systems
• Developing software using SQL
The Level 3 diploma is comprised of two mandatory units
• Health and Safety (Mandatory)
• Develop Personal and Organisational Effectiveness (Mandatory)
You can also choose from over 45 optional units to complete your qualification. Optional units can include, for example:
• Customer Care
• Technical fault diagnosis
• Testing ICT systems
• Software Development
You will also be required to achieve Level 2 in Functional skills (Maths and English).
