Apprenticeship (Level 2) Carpentry
Title and Level: Apprenticeship (Level 2) CarpentryIntroduction
This course will give you the skills and experience within the workplace to begin a career in Carpentry. It will cover the installation of first and second fix components such as windows and doors, the erection of structural carcassing, maintenance of tools and equipment and health and safety in the work environment.
Entry Requirements
You should have at least English, Maths and Science GCSE grade D (or equivalent) and a work placement. Applications from students on full-time Level 1 Carpentry course will also be considered. If you already have some Carpentry experience and work in the industry, then this will also be taken into consideration.
Duration
This is a two year programme depending on the level that you start at and the progression you make.
In year one, you will be at college for two and a half days a week. In year two, you will attend college for one day per week until you have completed your Technical Certificate.
Career prospects/progression
After completing this course, you can progress on to the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. This course is an enhancement of all subjects covered in Level 2 plus site foremanship, advanced first fix components (cut roof) and machine usage in joinery. Alternatively, you can seek employment.

This course covers a range of key areas including:
First and second fix
Structural carcassing (including roofing)
Installation of doors and windows
Architraves
Stairs
Kitchens
Course expenses
There are no additional expenses for books, materials and equipment but there may be a charge if you are required to re-sit any formal, external exams. You will need to supply your own protective clothing and footwear which is required to be used within the College workshop. Your Training Co-ordinator will advise you.
