Introduction
These courses give you the skills and experience within the workplace to progress a career in Plumbing.  They cover the installation of plumbing systems, how to maintain them and how to decommission systems in a safe and secure manner.

Entry requirements
You need at least English, Maths and Science GCSEs at grade C or a Level 2 Plumbing qualification to progress on to the Advanced Apprenticeship. You should also have a work placement. Plumbing experience will also be taken into consideration.

Duration
These are both two year apprenticeships. Enrolment is usually in September.

Career Prospects/Progression
After successfully completing these courses, you can progress to employment or further training at a higher level.

How will I be assessed?
Through continuous assessment by observations in the workplace and in College, personal statements of competence, end of module tests, portfolio of evidence, project work and practical activity.

A qualified College Plumbing assessor will visit you in your workplace to assess your practical skills whilst you are working in your job role. Your workplace supervisor or employer will be asked for a statement to confirm competence in particular practical activities.

At the end of each Technical Certificate module you will sit a test. You will need to pass these modules to gain the full Technical Certificate.

Course Content/units

The Apprenticeship in Plumbing at Level 2 consists of:

•    An NVQ in Plumbing at level 2
•    A Technical Certificate (City and Guilds Certificate in Plumbing)
•    Key Skill Application in Number at level 2
•    Key Skill Communications at level 2
•    Employer Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

Within the course you will study practical Plumbing competence in; Health and Safety, Key Plumbing Principles, Common Plumbing Processes, Cold Water Systems, Domestic Hot Water Systems, Sanitation and Drainage, Pipework for Central Heating, Sheet lead Weathering, Environmental awareness, Electrical Supply and Earth Continuity and Working Relationships.
The Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) will further develop your skills and knowledge in these areas as well as introducing new topics such as renewable energy and gas.

Course expenses
There may be a charge if you are required to re-sit your Technical Certificate modules or Key Skill external exams more than once. You will need to supply your own protective clothing and footwear which is required to be used within the College workshop.
