BTEC HNC Electrical-Electronic Engineering NQF 5

Title and Level: BTEC Higher National Certificate in Electrical / Electronic Engineering

Introduction
This 8 unit award provides an appropriate level of education for a range of technical and management careers in Engineering.  It also provides specialist studies which are directly relevant to job roles in which learners are currently working or in which they intend to seek employment.

Entry Requirements

  • National Certificate or Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with a Merit.
  • If you have appropriate industrial experience you will be considered for admission on an individual basis.

Duration
The course is studied over two years, typically from October to June on a day release basis, approximately 30 days in total per year. 

How will I be taught?
A typical day consists of a total of 5 sessions, with opportunities in the day for private directed study.  You will also have access to our well equipped Learning Resource Centre to support your studies. 

How will I be assessed?
All units are internally assessed through a series of assignments developed to allow you to meet the criteria set by Edexcel.  The Pass criteria set the skills you must have for each unit, and the Merit and Distinction criteria allow you to show higher level skills such as applying appropriate strategies for solutions and critical evaluation.

Course content/units
You will study a range of subjects including Analytical Methods, Electrical and Electronic Principles, Engineering Science.  In the second year you will also undertake a Project unit where you will be able to develop a project using your own individual expertise, and the skills you have developed through the course. 

Careers prospects/Progression
On successful completion learners can progress to an HND Electronics Engineering or graduate studies at a University.

Course fees Year 1:  £800.00
Course fees Year 2:  £745.00

You will also be required to pay a registration fee when you enrol to the awarding body Edexcel/BTEC . The registration is valid for five years. A book list will be issued during induction.
