College Disciplinary Procedure
We aim to discourage any behaviour which might affect the progress of a student themselves, or other students and staff with whom they work. The College has disciplinary codes governing student conduct and academic performance. A copy of the code is available on request from the 14-19 Office.
- CONCERN NOTES are issued by lecturers when students fail to meet deadlines, miss lectures or behave inappropriately, and these ensure that the tutor is informed of on-going problems.
- Where problems persist the tutor will issue a FIRST WRITTEN WARNING (Stage 1). This is placed on the student’s file and a copy is sent to parents. The warning includes some agreed targets for the student to meet.
- When students fail to meet their agreement with their tutor and problems recur, the student will be interviewed by their Curriculum and Quality Manager. In some cases parents will be invited to attend this meeting. Where it is likely that an improvement in behaviour can be achieved, the meeting will result in further targets being agreed and set out in a SECOND WRITTEN WARNING (Stage 2), a copy of which will be sent home to parents.
- When students continue to cause concern after the issue of a second written warning and are not meeting the targets set they will be referred to a DISCIPLINARY PANEL (Stage 3). The panel will be chaired by the Faculty Director. Parents will be invited, evidence will be presented and the student will be invited to make a statement. The panel will either recommend: -
a SECOND DISCIPLINARY AGREEMENT which will state clearly the conditions to be met if the student is to continue at college, or recommend permanent or temporary exclusion from College . - Where students are alleged to have committed an act of GROSS MISCONDUCT they will be referred immediately to a Disciplinary Panel
- The student will have the right of appeal to the Vice Principal Learning and Quality against any recommendation for permanent exclusion or suspension.
