I'm not able to come to the Information Evenings. Can I come at another time?
Of course! You can contact us any time in the year for a campus tour or a chat about the courses we have on offer. Just call the College on 01935 423921 for more details.
I'm really nervous about starting College!
You are not on your own! It is an anxious time for students who have spent a long time at secondary school and who are now embarking on new experiences at college. We ensure that your time at College is exciting, productive and rewarding and we have an excellent track record in helping new students settle in quickly.
I can't decide in a course - who can I ask for help?
There are lots of people who you can ask for help when discussing choices after school. Your Head of House or Careers Teacher will be able to advise you, as well Connexions. Don’t forget you can also call us too. Contact the Customer Liaison and Enrolment Team on 01935 423921 for help and advice.
What if I don't get the grades I need?
Use the entry requirements in the prospectus and on this website to help you make a realistic decision on the course(s) you are interested in studying with us. If your actual examination results are not what you expected, or you have changed your mind, we can discuss the options open to you.
I left school a while ago, will a reference from an employer be acceptable?
Yes. Please add the details on your application form. You will also need to have evidence of previous examination results already obtained, although mature applicants have more flexible entry requirements.
How do I apply? And is there a deadline?
You can make an application to College from September until June. Receipt of your application will be acknowledged and, once processed, you will be invited for a first interview. Daytime interviews take place at local schools and evening interviews are at the main college campus in Yeovil. Interviews begin in December.
Application Forms are available from your careers teacher, Connexions offices in Somerset and Dorset or from College Reception. They can also be downloaded from this website or completed online. Two hard copies are also included at the back of each 14-19 prospectus so that you have one copy to practice on before completing your final form. Completed applications should be handed to your school or directly to the College. If you have already left school, please send your form to the Customer Liaison and Enrolment Team at the College. Our most popular courses fill up bery quickly, so send in your completed application form as early as possible to ensure your place on your chosen course.
Do I have to pay tuition fees for my course?
Tuition fees are free if you are under 19 on 1st September in the year you start your course. If you are over 19, you may be eligible for fee remission if you receive certain benefits or tax credits or have not already achieved a full Level 2 or Level 3 qualification. Can I get financila help whilst studying?

What is the FE Army Bursary scheme?
The British Army has developed a scheme in partnership with colleges to help young adults prepare for a career in the Army. Students who are selected will receive £1000 during their studies and specialist tutorial support from Army Careers. the scheme is particluarly targeted towards courses such as Public Services, Engineering, Construction, Catering, Sport and IT. Do I have to pay for books and equipment at College?
As a College student, there may be additional costs involved in purchasing books, specialist equipment/materials or taking part in field trips. You will be given all this information prior to starting with us, usually at your first interview or during Information Evenings.
A learner resource charge is also paid by all full time students (excluding apprentices). This is currently £50 and pays for your ID card, 500 printer credits, your student planner and contributes towards enrichment activities and use of resources.
Would I have to wear an ID badge at College?
Yes. All students and staff must wear photo ID badges at all times while on campus to ensure everyone's safety. Yeovil College takes security very seriously and has established a close relationship with the local Community Police Officer, who holds frequent beat surgeries for students on site.
What is the social life like?
Although we emphasise the importance of working hard at College, it is not always about studying! By taking an active part in enrichment activities and Student Union events held throughout the year, you can be sure that you will have a well balanced and rewarding experience of College life.
Can I Bring a Car to College?
If you have a car, you are welcome to drive to College, although parking is at a premium. Many of our students use public transport to get to us. The College operates a 'green' policy and there is ample parking space for bicycles, mopeds etc.
