Title and Level: Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing
Introduction
The Level 3 course replaces the NVQ3 and is based on the National Occupation Standards for Hairdressing. It is a job ready qualification which requires the learners to demonstrate in the workplace skills and knowledge that are required in the Hairdressing Industry. This qualification attests to a high level of occupational competence and the readiness of the successful learner to practice their skills proficiently.
You are required to have achieved a Level 2 in Hairdressing to progress onto this course.

Work experience or current employment within the Industry is essential to facilitate sufficient practice to support the techniques and theoretical input delivered whilst in College.
You are required to carry out a trade test of colour, cut and blow dry to establish your professional competencies.
Duration
This course is a two year part time course, timetabled for 7 hours delivery on a Wednesday (09:15 - 16:15).
Careers prospects/Progression
This qualification is recognised as a prerequisite for the senior stylists or those aspiring to supervise other stylists. It can be a means to get accreditation for people who have many years of experience but do not currently possess the Industry qualification that verifies their competence.
The qualification provides progression into management or in to a higher level of qualification.
How will I be assessed
You will be assessed by:
Practical assessments on all techniques
A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates competence
Tests are available as either paper based or on-line for every unit
Course content/units
Mandatory:
Promote Additional services or products to customers
Monitor procedures to Safetly Control work operations
Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques
Optional:
Colour hair using a variety of techniques
Provide colour correction services
Creatively style and dress hair
Develop and enhance creative Hairdressing skills
Create varied permed effects
Provide creative hair extension services
Contribute to the financial effectiveness of the business
Contribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities
Support Customer Service Improvements
Course expenses
Course fees: £991.50 (£152.50 if you are in receipt of certain benefits)
A minimum kit is required as most Hairdressers will already possess a basic kit. The Tutor will advise if further items are required and these can be purchased through our suppliers or independently by the learner.
Tunic and trousers must be worn in the Salon and these are to be purchased at approx £40.00.
