Introduction
The BTEC National Certificate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering is designed to equip learners with the practical skills, knowledge and understanding required for success in current employment and progression to future employment for a range of occupations.
The 11 unit award provides the underpinning knowledge understanding and skills for engineering technicians in the areas of electrical and or electronic engineering.
The qualification also enables progression to BTEC Higher Nationals or undergraduate degree qualifications and professional electrical/electronic engineering related fields.
For adult learners the BTEC National Certificate offers specialist work related qualifications to confirm and extend their work experience if they are or have been employed in the sector.
Entry Requirements
GCSE grade B or above in maths, science, C grade in English and a technical subject.
Duration
Wednesday 09:00 - 18:30 One day per week for two academic years.
This is the second year of a two year course
Careers prospects/Progression
On successful completion learners can progress to an HNC Electronic Engineering. It also provides a suitable qualification for those wishing to change career or move into a particular area of employment.
How will I be assessed?
All units are internally assessed. All assessment is criterion referenced based on the achievement of specified learning outcomes. Each unit has specified criteria which are used for grading. A summative unit grade can be awarded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction. Learners who complete a unit but who do not meet all the pass criteria are graded unclassified.
The purpose of assessment is to ensure that effective learning of the content of each unit has taken place. Evidence of this learning is required for each unit. All assessments are assignment based and there are no formal exams.
Course content/units
The National Certificate requires you to gain 11 units in order to gain an Award. There are 5 core units and 6 specialist units as follows :-
Year 1
- Business Systems for Technicians
- Communications for Technicians
- Mathematics for Technicians
- Electrical and Electronic Principles
- Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits
- Electronic Measurement and Testing
Year 2
- Engineering Project
- Further Mathematics for Technicians
- Principles and Applications of Analogue Electronics
- Selection and Application of PLC's
- Microprocessor Systems and Applications
Course Expenses
Course fees: £1290.00
You will be required to pay a registration fee when you enrol to the awarding body Edexcel/BTEC.
The registration is valid for 5 years.
A book list will be issued during induction.
Full-time learners will be required to pay an additional deposit to cover for materials and course books, whereas Part-time learners will be required to pay for their own materials and books.
